GUIDING FAMILIES

Working TOWARDs a PEACEFUL RESOLUTION

Conflict affects every family differently, and when legal decisions are involved, the emotions and pressure can feel overwhelming. At Sea Hope, we understand that each person brings their own concerns, hopes, and perspectives to the table. Our role is to create a balanced, neutral space where everyone is heard and meaningful progress can truly happen. Mediation allows families to pause the conflict and focus on what matters most: finding a path forward that protects emotional well-being and what is best for those invloved. With guidance and structure, even difficult conversations can become opportunities for understanding, cooperation, and renewed trust. Rather than approaching conflict through a “win or lose” lens, mediation emphasizes mutual respect and realistic solutions.

What is the role of the mediator?

A family law mediator is a neutral professional who helps parties communicate, identify issues, and work toward mutually acceptable agreements. The mediator does not take sides, make decisions, or provide legal advice. A family law mediator is certified by the Supreme Court of Florida and is often a legal or mental health professional familiar with family dynamics and family law.

Who needs family mediation?

Family mediation is appropriate for parents or family members who need to resolve issues such as parenting time, decision-making, child support, or other family-related matters in a cooperative and confidential setting. This can also include divorce agreements and division of assets including but not limited to marital assets, child support and alimony. Mediators use appropriate State of Florida legal calculators in estimating amounts but are open to any agreement offered by the parties in good faith.

Can family mediation be done without a court order?

Yes. In Florida, family mediation can be voluntary and completed without a court order, this is called Pro Se Mediation. Mediation may also be required by the court in certain family law cases.

What is a parenting plan?

A parenting plan is a written document required in Florida that outlines how parents will share responsibilities and time with their child. It includes schedules, decision-making authority, and methods for resolving future disputes. It is considered a foundational document that is refered to when conflict gets in the way of making a decision.
